For those of you who recently filed for unemployment, the NYCDCC Benefit Funds would like to provide you an important message from the New York State Department of Labor (“DOL”) concerning call backs from Unemployment Agents to complete claims.
According to the New York State DOL, “To prevent fraud, anyone calling from the Department of Labor will verify their identity by providing the date you filed your Unemployment Insurance application and the type of claim you filed.”
Additionally, the New York State DOL asserted that it will NOT ask the claimant for his/her mother’s maiden name or his/her Social Security Number. Therefore, if a caller does ask for this information, it may in fact be a scam. If you are confronted with this scenario, you should NOT provide your information, hang up immediately, and attempt to call back the New York State Unemployment Insurance office using the official phone number at (888) 209-8124.
