On Thursday, June 29th, winners of the Charles Johnson Jr. Memorial Scholarship were recognized by the Board of Trustees at a luncheon in Manhattan. Each year, the NYCDCC Welfare Fund offers a Scholarship Program (known as the “Charles Johnson Jr. Memorial Scholarship”) for unmarried, dependent, biological, or adopted children of eligible members. The Scholarship Program pays up to $3,500 for each year of a four-year academic program at an accredited college or university, or until the child receives a bachelor’s degree, whichever occurs first. The maximum amount of the award is $14,000 per student.
We had a tremendous turnout at this year’s event, as we celebrated the accomplishments of the twenty-five awardees. These students shined in their studies, extracurricular activities, and community service, even as the pandemic presented obstacles throughout their high school experience. The Board of Trustees expressed their admiration for the winners, and joined in the celebration featuring great food, family, and a reminder of the positive impact the NYCDCC has in our community. The event was a wonderful send-off as these students begin exciting new chapters in their lives.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, congratulations to this year’s Charles Johnson Jr. Memorial Scholarship winners!
