When you are retired and eligible for Medicare, the Welfare FundÆs hospital/medical coverage supplements your Part A and Part B Medicare coverage. Specifically, whenever Medicare covers hospital/medical services, the Welfare Fund pays any deductibles and coinsurance required under Part A and Part B. This includes the Part A hospital inpatient deductible, the coinsurance charge for days 21 thru 100 in a skilled nursing facility, the Part B medical deductible and the 20% Part B medical coinsurance. The Welfare Fund does not provide coverage for hospital/medical services that are not covered by Medicare. In addition to the hospital/medical supplemental coverage, the Welfare Fund also provides Medicare-eligible retirees with prescription drug coverage, dental coverage, vision coverage and life insurance.
