Affordable Care Act Requires Certain Preventive Medications to be Covered at No Cost to Plan Participants

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), a health care law enacted by the federal government, imposes a number of insurance reforms and mandates upon medical and prescription drug plans. Included in these mandates is a requirement for certain preventive medications to be covered at no cost to plan participants. What this means is certain medications that are deemed “preventive” by ACA guidelines, are not subject to deductibles or co-pays. In other words, they are free to you.

Express Scripts, the pharmacy benefit manager for the NYCDCC Welfare Fund Plan, recently released an updated list to help make Plan participants aware of the medications and services that are considered “preventive” under the ACA. To view this latest listing from Express Scripts, you can click HERE.

Of course, while this listing may be helpful, we understand that you may also have more specific questions about your prescription drug coverage. If this is the case, you can contact Express Scripts directly by visiting their website at www.express-scripts.com, or calling them at (800) 939-2091.
