June 1, 2015
If you like getting out and enjoying yourself, June is the month for you! It all began with Great Outdoors Week, which was established by President Bill Clinton in June of 1998. From these simple beginnings, Great Outdoors Week has since expanded to National Great Outdoors Month, which was declared by President Barack Obama in June of 2004.
Not only is the month of June a perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy the world around you, but it’s also a great chance to instill in your children the value of a healthy lifestyle by getting them involved in activities and teaching them the importance of physical activity. In a world filled with technology like television, computers, and smartphones, many people often forget to put those things aside and experience all that life has to offer them. Experiencing the great outdoors has numerous benefits. It provides for a free or inexpensive fun day out for families, an opportunity to explore new things, be physically active, and a chance to relax from all stresses of work and daily life. Some ideas for outdoor activities include exercising, walking in the park, bike riding, fishing, or taking part in volunteer programs.
If there was ever a time to be encouraged to open up that door, it’s now! The warm weather is finally upon us and there is so much to appreciate when you walk outside. The fresh air, the beautiful trees, the flowers, and all the spectacular new buildings that our Union Carpenters have so proudly helped to build. This month is the perfect time to get out there and enjoy it!
