December 9, 2019

New York City District Council of Carpenters (“NYCDCC”) retiree Warren Hutchinson met Local 212 member Alexandra Guadalupe in 2016 during a Journeyman Leadership training session at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters (“UBC”) International Training Center. At the time, neither one of them knew that the chance meeting and friendly bond they developed at the UBC would eventually lead to Alexandra saving Warren’s life by donating him one of her kidneys. To learn more about this heartwarming story of union kinship and solidarity, you can click links to an Op-ed piece written by Warren and published in Crain’s Business New York titled “My Union Saved My Life,” and an article that appears in the UBC’s magazine titled, “A Life Saving Gift.”
